Latex ligation of piles
Latex ligation of piles, or rubber banding of piles, is one of the most effective low-invasive treatments for haemorrhoids.
This procedure takes only a few minutes, during which the internal piles are ligated using rubber bands. The ligated piles will then resolve on their own without any pain, because after the blood supply is interrupted behind the rubber band, the affected tissue will die. Once the pile falls off, a small wound is left in its place, which will soon heal completely.
This completely painless procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. Since the mucosa does not have pain receptors, no anaesthesia is required during a latex ligation procedure. There is also no post-operative pain, so no analgesics are needed and the patient can usually return to daily activities and a normal rhythm of life immediately after the procedure.
