Removal of skin formations

Various skin formations, especially in visible parts of the body, disfeature aesthetic appearance of the skin, causing a feeling of discomfort. InnMed Clinic offers dermoscopic examination and diagnostics of all skin formations and moles, and procedure for their removal. Depending on the diagnosis, localization, risk of trauma, aesthetic goals, and risk factors of skin formations, they can be removed by either laser or surgery.

Skin formation are usually removed surgically for aesthetic reasons, as well as when the formation is exposed to friction or pressure (flexor surfaces of limbs, areas of compression with clothing), when the formation is large, has complex shape or at risk of malignancy. It is important that this procedure is performed by an experienced and skilful professional, as scarring or hyperpigmentation may occur if the skin formation is not removed carefully enough. At InnMed Clinic, skin formation removal procedures are performed surgically by experienced plastic surgeons.

Consultation with a plastic surgeon is necessary prior to surgery, during which the moles or other skin derivatives are examined with a dermascope, and determined whether the operation is possible and necessary.

Procedure

The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia of the specific area. Its duration and technique depend on the location of the formation; if the formation is location in the facial area, it is removed with great precision.
During the procedure, an incision is made in healthy tissue, the formation is removed, and the incision is sutured. When the formation and tissue area are extensive, a special plastic surgery technique is used to cover the skin defect with skin patches. If necessary, the formation can be sent for histological examination.

Postoperative period

After surgical removal of the formation, the patient will be discharged home. It is important to follow your doctor’s instructions for successful healing after surgery. The healing period takes about 7-10 days. The first few days after the procedure, it is necessary to change bandages and carefully protect the healing area from direct sunlight and irritants for several weeks. During the healing period, it is advisable not to engage in active exercise, avoid swimming pool and sauna.

Results to expect after surgery

Removal of skin formations improves the aesthetic appearance of the skin, eliminates irritation of moles or other skin formations, and reduces the risk of malignancy.
