Fat removal (liposuction)

Fat removal (otherwise known as liposuction) is a surgical procedure that allows to remove localised fat deposits that cannot be otherwise eliminated with the help of diets and sports. Liposuction is one of the most effective and fastest ways to get rid of unnecessary body fat in the abdomen, back, waist, hips, lateral thighs, thighs, knees, arms (between shoulder and elbow) and chin area.

Liposuction surgery does not mean weight loss; it is not suitable for getting rid of excessive weight or as cellulite treatment. During the operation, subcutaneous fat is extracted only in those parts of the body where its accumulations are visible, their excess deforms the contour of the body, resulting in physical and psychological discomfort.

Consultation with a plastic surgeon is required before surgery. The surgeon will help assesses the anatomy of the patient’s body, discusses expectations, scope of the surgery, and other important details.

Surgical procedure

The operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia, but local analgesia may be used for minor procedures.

During liposuction, a special solution is injected into the areas of the body from which the fat deposits will be removed, which reduces bleeding during the procedure and ensures post-operative analgesia. Fat is extracted with a special fat suction device through small incisions of several millimetres. Up to 3-4 litres of fat can be removed during the operation. After the procedure, the incisions will be sutured, sometimes leaving drains in.

At InnMed Clinic, liposuction is performed using the newest methods, allowing to remove fat deposits more efficiently and evenly, leaving no pits or “orange peel” skin that after the operation. Using improved techniques means less trauma to the surrounding tissues and faster healing period.

Postoperative period

It is recommended to stay at the clinic for one day following the operation, after which, in the absence of complications, the patient will be discharged home, and care will be continued on an outpatient basis. The sutures are removed one day after surgery. The time of the postoperative visit will be appointed by the operating doctor.

Bruising may persist for up to 3-4 weeks after the procedure. You can return to work or other normal activities a few days after the operation, but sports and intense physical work should be avoided for 4-6 weeks. It is necessary to wear compression clothing for about 1-2 months after the operation.

Results to expect after surgery

The final result of liposuction can be evaluated after 3-4 months. Patients can enjoy more graceful and slimmer body lines, and greater self-confidence. The result of liposuction is long-lasting, however the time it will delight the patient depends on lifestyle, diet, physical activity and ageing process that occurs naturally in the body.
