Breast lift is a surgical procedure performed to lift sagging breasts that lost their firmness, and give them the desired shape.
Breasts lose firmness, glandular and fatty breast tissue and sag down due to various reasons: decreased skin elasticity, significant weight loss, gravitational force, pregnancy, breastfeeding and ageing processes. Sometimes sagging breasts are genetically inherited. Breast lift surgery to help regain a rejuvenated breast shape is recommended for women whose breasts are of the desired size but sag, lack elasticity, mammary tissue, or when the breast nipples and areolas are lowered.
Consultation with a plastic surgeon is necessary prior to surgery, who will help assess the anatomy of the patient’s body and shape of the breasts, hear out the expectations, taking into account the shape of the breasts and the degree of sagging, and advise on the operation plan and details. Breast lift can be combined with breast reduction. If larger breasts are desired, both breast lift and enlargement with implant can be performed at the same time.
Breast lift is performed under general anaesthesia. The operation lasts 2-3 hours.
Breast lift is usually performed by making an anchor-shaped incision that starts under the breast, along the natural crease, and extends vertically upwards. During the operation, the excess breast skin is removed, the breast tissue is stretched, the nipple and areola are moved to a new higher position, and a new breast shape of the required size and fullness is formed. If the areola is very large, it can be reduced during the surgery. Inverted nipples can also be corrected during the surgery.
It is recommended to stay at the clinic for one day following the operation, after which, in the absence of complications, the patient will be discharged home, and care will be continued on an outpatient basis. The time of the postoperative visit will be appointed by the operating doctor. The sutures are removed in one week’s time, the skin scars will heal within a year after the operation and become almost invisible. It is recommended to use the treatments prescribed by the surgeon for faster scar healing.
A compression bra selected by a plastic surgeon must be worn regularly for a period of 6 weeks after the surgery. You can return to work and other normal activities after a week, however, it is advisable to avoid hard physical activity, sports, direct sunlight and solarium, and use protective measures for a period of 4-6 weeks.
Results to expect after surgery
The result of the operation is visible immediately, but the final aesthetic outcome can be evaluated after 1-2 months. After a breast lift surgery, women can enjoy firmer, more youthful, more beautiful and attractive looking breasts.
