Breast augmentation with fat transfer
Breast augmentation with fat transfer is a two-stage surgical procedure. During the operation, unwanted fat is removed from the abdomen, torso, back, thighs or inner knee area. After special preparation, the fat is then injected into the breasts, thus allowing to achieve a natural fullness of the breasts and a more beautiful shape.
Breast augmentation with fat transfer is an increasingly popular alternative to breast augmentation with implants. This method, which uses the patient’s own adipose tissue for breast correction, is suitable for moderate breast correction, where the aim is to regain the natural volume and shape of the breasts, which is usually lost after breastfeeding or weight loss. Breast augmentation with fat transfer surgery is recommended for women who want fuller but natural breasts and do not wish to use implants. The volume and shape of asymmetrical breasts can also be adjusted with fat.
Consultation with a plastic surgeon is necessary prior to surgery, who will help assess the anatomy of the patient’s body and breasts, discuss the wishes and expected results, and advises on the necessity of the lipofilling. It is important to know that fat is distributed differently than implants and has a different consistency. When fat is injected into the upper part of the breast, it will subsequently settle, giving the breast a natural, anatomical shape. In addition, lipofilling can increase the breasts by only ½-1 size. For those who want a more pronounced effect, it is recommended to choose breast augmentation with implants.
Breast augmentation with fat transfer is technically complex procedure that requires particular accuracy and consistency on the part of the plastic surgeon. It is performed under general anaesthesia and takes about 2-3 hours, depending on the amount of fat you want to remove and the requested size of breasts.
During the operation, excess fat (usually from the abdomen, thighs or waistline) is first removed, forming an attractive body contour. This fat is then treated and injected into the breasts through small incisions. Taking into account that, fat graft take is 50 %, extra fat is injected.
It is recommended to stay at the clinic for one day following the operation, after which, in the absence of complications, the patient can be discharged home, and care will be continued on an outpatient basis. The time of the postoperative visit will be appointed by the operating doctor.
For best aesthetic results, it is recommended to sleep only on the back for 3-4 weeks after the operation, and wear a special compression bra for a period of 6 weeks. Intense physical activity and sports should be avoided for 4-6 weeks, exposes breasts to direct sun light or solarium rays should be avoided for about a year.
Results to expect after surgery
The result after breast augmentation with fat transfer is visible immediately after surgery:
breasts look fuller and more beautifully shaped. However, fat graft take is usually only 40-60%, so the final result of the surgery can be evaluated after 1-2 months. Body fat responds to changes in weight and hormonal fluctuations, therefore, after breast correction with fat transfer, their shape may be changed. Diet and weight loss will reduce fat content in the breasts as well. If necessary, breast augmentation with fat transfer can be repeated after a certain period.
